Welcome to the Whats your Top 5 podcast home page! We make lists; we rank things; we enjoy comparing them with others and defending our opinions. This podcast is all about having a good time with friends, talking about the choices we made and how we made them when challenged to come up with lists of our favorite things. We talk about movies, TV show characters, songs, sporting events, teams….you name it. You ever watch the movie High Fidelity with John Cusack? It’s one of our favorites…classic movie for music lovers…anyway, Cusack’s character, Rob, owns a record store in Chicago and loves to spend time ranking songs based on all kinds of ever changing contexts. Here’s a clip illustrating this habit of his. Anyway, we took a lot of inspiration from Rob in creating this podcast. We consume a lot of pop culture and love to talk about it…especially to hear about how our thoughts on different subjects compare to those of others. And we tend to have some fun doing just that.

About Us

Host: Larry Lloyd

My inspiration was for creating the Whats Your Top 5 podcast equal parts the character Rob Gordon in High Fidelity and Dax Shepard’s highly successful podcast Armchair Expert. Rob and I are of a similar era in regards to how their youth shaped their musical interests (my musically formative years were the early to mid 80’s in Southern California) and I enjoyed making mix tapes back in college much the way Rob does in the movie High Fidelity. I am also a voracious consumer of podcasting content and recently came across the Armchair Expert podcast that feels a lot like sitting in on a conversation among friends. And the environment is very casual, an attic above a garage, with cozy couches and lounge chairs. I highly recommend it and, frankly, found inspiration in it in how we built our little home studio and the format of our podcast. I am also a huge fan of movies, TV, sports, etc., and I expect all of these to be fodder for many episodes to come.

First, let me state that’s it’s both a privilege and an honor to serve as co-host alongside Larry for the WhatsYourTop5 Podcast. I love watching and attending sporting events and being born in 1979 means two of my favorite sports teams have won championships during my lifetime: Los Angeles Lakers have won 10 NBA championships and the Anaheim Ducks have won a Stanley Cup. My hobbies include going to Disneyland, bowling (I bowled a 300 game in league play!), Sunday lament sessions in Downtown Fullerton, and spending time with my wonderful niece and nephew. Born and raised in Fullerton, CA, I’m a proud graduate of California State University, Fullerton and I love living in this beautiful city. I look forward to interacting with everyone and I hope you enjoy our podcast!

Hey everyone, we’ve got a brand new podcast episode for you to listen to while you all remain “safe at home”, or even if you’ve gone back to work! This week, we (and I mean 4 of us!) talk about our favorite rides at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA. All four of us grew up on Disneyland, and as adults have spent even more time there. It has been, for years, one of our favorite things about living in Southern California.

Your hosts Larry Lloyd and RJ Carnesi are joined this week again by returning guest Madison Ashbrook and her sister Delainey Ashbrook for 40 minutes or so of witty banter and fond recollections of going to a place we haven’t been able to visit for almost 2 months now! Nor do we know when the park will re open again.

We recorded this a while back and held off on releasing it because it seemed irrelevent in a COVID – 19/Quarantined life but we realize now that it is actually a good time to reminisce about something we all love but can’t enjoy IRL. We hope you enjoy and let us know your thoughts and critiques!
