Episode 7 – Favorite Movie Sequels

We’re back with an all-new podcast episode, today we go back to our movie roots and talk about our favorite movie sequels. It’s the original Whats Your Top 5 crew, RJ Carnesi, Linda Ashbrook and Larry Lloyd, reuniting from our Will Ferrell episode to talk about some pretty classic films!

One of the greatest films period…

We had a great time talking about these films, got somewhat philosophical in regards to what really counts as a move sequel (it’s not as straight forward as we might have thought!), and we talked about sequels and movies we didn’t like almost as much as the ones we did! That whole Lord of the Rings/Samwise Gamgee discussion is still fresh in my memory!

Having this on RJ’s list should come as no surprise to anyone who knows him

This was recorded a while ago, a fact that was divulged a couple of times during the recording, and we’ve held onto this episode a while so we have a few non movie-related discussions, including how Coronavirus has turned our lives upside down. But this episode is timeless. The films we discuss are timeless and we hope you enjoy it!

One of my favorite childhood movies

Please let us know what you think about this or any of our other six episodes. Let us know what you like, what you don’t like…suggest a list for us to make…leave a comment to this blog post! Most definitely rate us on whatever Podcast platform you use to listen to us. All of these things help us get the word out a bit!

Thanks!

Episode 6 – Top 5 Things to do While in Quarantine

Coronvirus special! Stuck at home, bored out of your mind? “Working” from home but looking for something to pass the time a bit more quickly? Looking to help out a struggling podcast get a bit more of a share of the massive #podcastuniverse ? Let us try and help you out of this predicament!

So tired of this!!!

Look, we know how hard this will be, and that we’re only getting started. Hanging out at home rather than going to work SOUNDS good until you are actually forced to do it, Am I right? Well, we took your burden and turned it into our 6th podcast episode. Today, we’ll be discussing our Top 5 Things to do While in Quarantine.

So many options

There really is a ton of stuff you can be doing with this time. I’m sure you’ve already thought about some of these, but we’ve gone through the effort of compiling them into three nice and tidy lists for YOUR benefit. Aren’t we great???

Today, RJ Carnesi and Larry Lloyd are again joined by guest Trevor Lucas for this discussion and, because of social distancing/quarantine/safe-at-home etiquette, we had to opt for a new way of recording. So, we recorded this episode via Zoom. The sound quality may not be quite where we’d like it to be but, hey, in a pinch, it works pretty damned good!

We hope you enjoy. Please leave us a comment here with this post or send us an email (at rj@whatsyourtop5.com or podhostlarry@whatsyourtop5.com) and, as always, please rate us on your favorite podcast listening platform. This, along with your personal recommendations (which we will GREATLY appreciate) are the best way for us to grow our audience.

Thanks and enjoy!

Episode 5 – Whats Your Top 5 Favorite Sports Movies

First of all, Happy St. Patty’s Dahy everyone! We hope the Coronavirus hasn’t affected you too much. If you’re stuck at home because of it, we some some good news for you! The Whats Your Top 5 crew is back again with a new episode, this one talking about our favorite sports movies. Your co hosts RJ Carnesi and Larry Lloyd are joined this week by a new guest host, Trevor Lucas. Trevor (along with RJ and Larry for that matter) is a sports enthusiast extraordinarie and brought some interesting movies into this discussion.

The ultimate underdog story?

There are so many great sports movies out there to have chosen from and you see a bit of that diversity in our respective lists. I’m sure we missed a lot of movies; I know that, in retrospect, I did. I sort of wish we could have done our Top 10 instead!

And how we approached these lists was interesting too. Trevor elected to stick to movies that came out in the 80’s since, that’s when these kinds of movies were so important to him. As a former soccer player, he also, unsurprisingly, brought the only soccer movie to the discussion. Me on the other hand, as the old guy on the panel, I had the oldest movie on my list.

One of the first soccer movies ever made in the US!

RJ, a huge hockey fan (fun fact, he has actually held the Stanley Cup trophy after it was one by the Anaheim Ducks MANY years ago), brought some coolest game on Earth to the list.

So, we hope you enjou this episode. We’d love to hear from you to let us know what Sports Movies YOU love. Email either RJ (RJ@whatsyourtop5.com) or Larry (podhostlarry@whatsyourtop5.com), leave us a great review wherever you listen to podcasts (these help us expand our reach of listeners), or leave a comment right here.

Thanks!

Greatest moment in US Olympic History?

Episode 4 – Whats Your Top 5 Things To Do in Southern California?

We’re back! Another Pod has dropped, this one, our third full episode, is a discussion about our favorite things to do in Southern California. Your co hosts, Larry Lloyd and RJ Carnesi, are joined this week by returning guest host Madison Ashbrook.

The Magic Kingdom. Every trip to Southern California should include a stop here

This was a lively discussion, in large part because there are just so many things todo and enjoy in Southern California. Beaches, deserts, mountains, islands, theme parks, great sports teams, Southern California has all of that! Few other places in the world can make the same claim.

Scenic Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island

Our lists had very little overlap this week which also made the conversation super fun and interesting. It doesn’t hurt that “Southern California” really covers a pretty huge area. For purposes of this podcast discussion, we agreed to limit the area of interest from the San Fernando Valley in the North, all the way to the Mexican boarder in the South, from the coast to the inland deserts. There’s a TON of stuff to do in that big of an area!

Souther California is HUGE!

Anyway, we hope you enjoy listening to this episode. If you’re thinking of visiting the area, we REALLY hope you get some great tourist stop ideas from us. If you’ve visited any of these places, please let us know what you think of them and and how we rate them.

As always, feel free to leave us a comment here or send us an email. Both myself (podhostlarry@whatsyourtop5.com) and RJ (RJ@whatsyourtop5.com) would love to hear from you! Also, be sure and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to us, great reviews will help us reach more and more listeners. Anyway, enjoy the episode!

Catch a game (hockey or basketball) at the Staples Center, the House that Kobe built!

Episode 3 – Whats Your Top 5 Animated Disney Movies

Who doesn’t love themselves a little “Hakuna Matata”?

New Pod is up now, this one about our favorite Disney movies, the animated kind. We brought in a couple of younger guest hosts to help us out on this topic as we knew this conversation would veer into the “childhood memory” lane often. Madison and Delainey Ahsbrook were happy to bring their pointed perspectives to this conversation and each brought a more contemporary view to these movies while RJ and Larry leaned a bit more toward the classics….no surprises there. Madison is actually employed by the Walt Disney Company and RJ once was as well, so it felt a bit like we had some insider access on this topic.

We also learned a few things about each other during this episode. One is that Delainey somewhat struggled to be heard over the cacauphany of noise we made during the recording of this episode. Two times she could be heard making statements that no one responded to; unfortunately, we’ll probably never know what interesting factoid she wanted to bring up during our discussion of Lion King. The other is that she stated three times that she never saw Sleeping Beauty never once getting a reaction from anyone!

The other thing we learned was that Robert has missed a LOT of Disney Amimated Feature Films. “I never saw that” could have been the subtitle to this episode!

Finally, we got some good background info on a couple of movies including a brief discussion of the story behind Mulan as well as Robin Williams impact on the color choice for the Genie in Alladin as well as what he demanded of Disney before agreeing to the role. You’ll have to listen to get more details!

You can listen over on our Podcast page or by looking us up in Apple Podcasts and Spotify podcasts.

Anyway, another movies-based topic for your listening enjoyment. Send us some feedback to podhostlarry@whatsyourtop5.com or RJ@whatsyourtop5.com and let us know what you thought of our choices and let us know your own!
